Free Plans Released to the World

In a decision that would define his legacy, Paul and his son David decide to release free GEET plans for personal equipment "to everyone on the planet." This act of generosity may have triggered the persecution that followed.

"The goal is to use GEET to wipe out pollution and reduce the cost of living up to 95% for all of humanity."

— Paul Pantone
1999-2005

Buyout Attempts & Legal Troubles

circa 2000

The Buyout Attempt

Pantone is allegedly offered millions of dollars to sell his rights to GEET. He is clearly threatened that there would be "serious consequences" if he refuses. He stipulates any sale must ensure "the invention be used to help man" — each time, the prospective buyers turn him down.

circa 2000

Financial Devastation Begins

$7 million allegedly disappears from Pantone's accounts within one month. Seven rental properties are lost. Pantone's financial ruin begins.

June-August 2001

French Academic Validation

Christophe Martz conducts an engineering study at ENSAIS (now INSA Strasbourg) with support from ANVAR (French innovation agency). Key finding: 90% reduction of some pollutants documented. This study launches the French GEET movement.

2002

Personal and Financial Collapse

Pantone separates from wife Molley. In bankruptcy proceedings, claims he owns "a bare patent with no beneficial interest or value." GEET ownership allegedly transferred to Robert Fackrell in bankruptcy.

May 21, 2003

Patent Lost to Foreclosure

Patent US5,794,601 is assigned to Atkin & Hawkins, P.C. through foreclosure.

October 3, 2003

Legal Attack Begins

Utah Department of Commerce issues Emergency Order to Cease and Desist. Charges filed: Four second-degree felony counts of Securities Fraud, one third-degree felony count, one count of Selling an Unregistered Security, and one second-degree felony count of Pattern of Unlawful Activity.

October 8, 2004

Pantone Pleads Guilty

Pleads guilty to two counts of second-degree securities fraud. Remaining charges dismissed. Supporters claim he accepted the plea under duress, expecting only a four-month sentence. His attorney allegedly threatened him with extended mental institutionalization if he didn't comply.

"Pure, unadulterated nonsense — the crackpot notions of a fraud looking to get rich quick."

— Richard Hamp, Prosecutor
May 2005

Domestic Abuse Complaint

Ex-wife Molley files a domestic abuse complaint against Pantone. The complaint is later dismissed.

December 12, 2005

Declared Incompetent — Committed

Judge Royal Hansen declares Pantone incompetent to receive sentencing. Under Utah Code 77-15-5(4-5), Pantone is ordered detained indefinitely at the Utah State Hospital. He is deemed "delusional" partly because he claims GEET can run engines on mostly water — a claim thousands of builders have since demonstrated.

"grandiose and persecutory delusions, complicated by a personality disorder and a history of substance abuse."

— Psychiatric evaluation
2006-2009

Utah State Hospital Confinement

March 2006

Transferred to Forensic Unit

After spending 3.5 months in Salt Lake County Jail due to lack of hospital beds, Pantone is transferred to the male forensic unit at Utah State Hospital in Provo.

2006

Alleged Conditions Documented

Supporters document allegations of medical neglect: broken toe untreated for over 18 months, untreated Hepatitis C, persistent migraines, skin rashes and bleeding sores, rotten teeth broken in half and fallen out, infected gums. Denied phone and visitation rights despite judge's orders. Outgoing mail intercepted.

"Some of Paul's teeth are broken in half. Some have fallen out. His mouth is swollen. He has bleeding skin sores contracted from other patients. I believe Paul is dying from medical neglect."

— George Gaboury, Paul Pantone Defense Project
June 2007

Forced Medication Battle

A "Sell" hearing is held regarding forced medication. The state seeks to forcibly medicate Pantone to make him "competent" for sentencing. The proposed medications could cause diabetes, irreversible muscle spasms (tardive dyskinesia), stroke risk, and cardiovascular failure.

July 2007

Judge Rules for Forced Medication

Judge Hansen rules that Utah State Hospital can forcibly medicate Pantone. Attorney Justin Heideman files an appeal. Salt Lake City Weekly publishes "Fuel Injected Lunatic" article.

"Patients on such medications become zombies with tardive dyskinesia."

— Dr. Wilfred Higashi, Former head of Utah state mental health
January 8, 2008

Legal Paradox

Recusal motion hearing. The case enters a legal paradox: How can someone declared incompetent file a valid legal motion? Attorney owed nearly $15,000 by supporters, states he will not work on the case anymore unless payment is received.

May 12, 2009

Freedom After 3.5 Years

Paul Pantone is released from Utah State Hospital after nearly 3.5 years of confinement. The state agrees to let him leave without serving any additional jail time — he had already been confined far longer than any prison sentence would have required for the securities fraud charges.

"PAUL PANTONE IS FREE... an American hero who has survived horrific inventor abuse by corrupt Utah officials and businessmen."

— San Francisco Tesla Society

The Pattern of Suppression

Paul Pantone's story is not unique. Other energy inventors have faced similar fates.

Inventor Technology Fate
Paul Pantone GEET Reactor Institutionalized 3.5 years, died 2015
Stanley Meyer Water Fuel Cell Died suddenly 1998; last words: "They poisoned me"
Tom Ogle Vaporized Fuel System Drug/alcohol OD 1981; prototype vanished
Charles Pogue High-MPG Carburetor Workshop burglarized; withdrew from public life

The Invention Secrecy Act of 1951 provides a documented legal mechanism for suppressing technologies deemed threats to "national security." As of 2017: 5,784 patents under secrecy orders.

"I could have been a rich man, but I wanted to change the world."

— Paul Pantone

Paul Pantone gave his technology to the world for free. In return, he was charged with fraud, declared insane, locked in a mental hospital for 3.5 years, denied medical care, threatened with forced medication, and financially destroyed.

He died in 2015 without vindication.

His technology lives on through thousands of builders worldwide, particularly in France where it has become mainstream enough to be taught in schools.

The question is not whether GEET works — thousands of replications prove it does.

The question is: why isn't it everywhere?
